The Jumper Cables are an exciting new bluegrass band from the Czech Republic. I just had the chance to listen to their first full-length project entitled “Miners Daughter”. It’s an impressive mix of modern bluegrass mixed with a fresh take on a European classic. They have a strong four-piece band equipped with stirring soloists. I’ve known the guitar player TOMÁŠ JUŘENA since his days with the Slovak/Czech band Fragment, and I’ve always been a fan of his inventive playing.
His band-mates are on par with his skill set, which is a huge compliment to their playing! Overall, the album is a mix of current sounds, well rooted in the traditions of Bluegrass music. Most of the material is original, which is a great move in my book. You can tell that they “aren’t from around these parts” by the accented vocals, but it’s hard to imagine how difficult it is to be proficient in a genre of music from around the world AND sing effectively in a foreign tongue. They do a good job of both! The Jumper Cables are a strong Bluegrass ensemble and well worth your listen!
